Compare cybersecurity risks in the U.S. and another country.
I wanted to compare cybersecurity risks between the U.S. and Tajikistan. Cybersecurity in the U.S. was rated 31 out of all countries in terms of how cyber-safe they were (in a study done by Comparitech.com in 2021). The highest cyber-secure country was Denmark, with a score of 75. To compare that to Tajikistan, their score was 1. Tajikistan suffers from multiple types of malware attacks, crypto miner attacks, and Trojan attacks. Though Tajikistan suffers multiple types of attacks, it appears that they aren’t the source of many attacks, as well as not being a primary target for spam or malicious emails.
The United States is by far not the safest when it comes to cybersecurity compared to other countries, but it’s doing better than Tajikistan in particular. The United States suffers mainly from secure shell (SSH) attacks and spam emails from none other than other people in the United States. I think this has something to do with the population difference between the United States and Tajikistan. The U.S. currently has a population of 330 million people, compared to Tajikistan’s 10 million people. With many more people residing in the United States, as well as being more technologically advanced, I think it’s inevitable to have American based attacks go to other Americans. Tajikistan is considered the poorest country in central Asia, and I think this also has a factor in why their cybersecurity is lower than most. Education about cybersecurity, for those that have access to the internet, might be harder to come by or isn’t talked about as much due to the country’s economic status. Their priorities probably aren’t to protect themselves from cyber-attacks, when the country is in poverty. This might also may make them not a usual target for attacks, as there isn’t much for the attacker to gain from it, monetarily at least.
