How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

Part of engineers’ job is to help make cyber networks safer by creating stable, safe, and strong cyber networks in the first place. Along with this, it’s also their job to constantly update and improve on these networks to keep up with changing times and new vulnerabilities being discovered. It’s very important to create new cyber networks and to keep these networks up to date because it helps with the overall stability and security of said systems, along with helping to keep hackers and threat actors out. It’s hard to keep all hackers and incidents at bay, but with fast acting and a strong defense in place, you can minimize the harm done by these malice-intended individuals. Engineers can also learn from these events, see what the weaknesses were in the systems attacked, and use this information to improve on the security of the systems. Engineers working together can diverge different ideas and experience backgrounds to come up with new plans to prevent future attacks. With the rise of cyber attacks, it’s extremely important for engineers to have a keen eye for details, weaknesses in different systems, and to apply context to what they are building the system for. For example, a system for a financial facility will be different than a system built for an independently ran small business owner. These contexts and nuances will help engineers understand what is most important for each client, and what their biggest vulnerabilities are, as every type of business will have different concerns and weak points. In the rise of reliance on technology, an engineer’s job is very relevant and important more than ever before in my opinion. A passion for safety and longevity should be some of the main ethical stances for engineers, and should be considered before entering into this career.
