Artifact 3

After completing items to achieve in modules 11-14, module 14’s activity really made me change my way of thinking which made it stand out to me. In this module, we were tasked with rating on a scale of 1-7 how we relate to statements relating to happiness. This is referred to the Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS). I scored a 5 which lies in the average happiness score. The average happiness score ranges between 4.5 to 5.5. However, college students typically fall slightly below this average.

This activity made me reflect on how happy I truly was. In addition, made me think critically about ways cultural expectations influence the perception of whether one has had a happy life. It is really easy to compare yourself to others and society which can also impact your perception of happiness. I chose the representative image below because it demonstrates the idea that everyone is different and can discover their own happiness. Happiness can mean a variety of things to different people.

Artifact 2

After completing items to archive in modules 7-10, module 7’s activity stood out to me. The reason it stood out to me was the fact it really showed me the important of inconsistencies within studies and operationalizing the feeling of dissonance. The activity related to an attitude study and a behavior study. There was a variety of questions regarding these topics. However, I feel like there are inconsistencies with the survey statements. On the attitude study, here were questions that were almost impossible to disagree with. For example, one of the questions was about wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the chance of suffering a serious injury in a car accident. Kids across America have grown up learning to put a seatbelt on so this should just be common sense. Operationalizing the feeling of dissonance requires creating oppositional statements of some topics. Rewording the same concept can help verify the accuracy of an attitude/behavior. This activity measures the same concepts but if different contexts.

This activity really expanded my knowledge on the topic by making me think critically about the application of studies. I had to look at a variety of survey questions about attitude and behavior and identify inconsistencies within. I chose this image as my visual representation because it shows how attitude and behavior are a “two-way street”. The two surveys were regarding attitude and behavior. This opened my eyes to the fact that people way have certain beliefs that their actions don’t always match and vise versa.

After completing items to archive in modules 3-6, module 3’s activity stood out to me. This activity was at the top of my selection because it was a topic of interest and engaged me the most. I have always had mixed thoughts about if opposites attract or if similarity leads to attraction. While completing this activity, I learned that the results also indicated support for both sides. This activity illustrates that despite the intuitive appeal of common-sense ideas, you should be careful in wholeheartedly accepting them. In addition, this activity expanded my knowledge of the topic by making me think critically about mixed results of the ratings of each version. In module 3, topics such as social thought and experimentation were discussed. This activity expanded my knowledge of these topics because it made me conduct an “experiment” to obtain results on social thought and social behavior.

The image above represents the idea that birds of a feather flock together. In other words, similarity leads to attraction. I chose this image because I have found that the majority of my friendships and relationships have been with people I share similar values and beliefs with. Having common interests is also beneficial when building connections with people. For the longest time I listened to the saying “Your vibe attracts your tribe”.
