Assignment Takeaway

Taking a look back at the first assignment and what I wrote, my main take away is that we are naturally judgemental people. Whether those judgments are correct are not is up to chance. Looking at the different Heuristics that were described, all of them have common that we take previous information we’ve acquired and use it to assess the current situation. Whether it is a person, at a store, buying a car, a place to eat, we take information and apply it to make a judgment about it.

Looking over the course of history, looking back at my history classes, people of different nationalities and religions make certain assumptions about others who are different from them. Whether it is the way that they act, what holidays they celebrate or even previous events that have happened in the past such as 9/11 being a big one. I myself am no different, I too have made assumptions, mine being on the smaller side like restaurants and stores. One I can recall is when I ate at Zaxbys. I went and ate with the family like any other night. The next couple of days I got very sick and I wasn’t sure why. After thinking, I came to the conclusion that it was most likely the food from the restaurant. I then have not been back because of that experience.

This is my very good friend Jordan; we’ve been friends for close to 10 years now. Ever since I’ve known her, people have always thought she was a different race than she actually is. People would usually think she is Puerto Rican, Latina, or Columbian to name a few. When in fact, shes mixed with black and white. Her tan skin gave off that impression, which made those who just met her think she was from one of those races.
