Artifact 5

In this item, we had to choose 2 adjectives for each ethnicity and racial group to describe them from a word bank. I have to say this one wasn’t my favorite just because of how restricted I was with the words I could use. Yes, that was the whole point of the exercise, but being me, I didn’t want to put something that I felt was mean and not right to put. Also, even though I know different cultures, I don’t know enough about them to be able to describe them. Besides that part, talking about the changing of stereotypes over time and why they changed was interesting to me. Stereotypes come with all different types of cultures and ethnicities. As we continue through our lives, views on people change. Whether it be for the better or for worse.

I made this bubble full of words describing the American people. I chose this because am unable to describe a group of people with just 2 words. Even then, these are words I took out of the word bank that was given. Different kinds of cultures and ethnicities have more than just a 2-word definition. For some, it might be easy to describe a group in a few words. For me, not so much.

Artifact 4

In this item, the focus was talking about Self-Enhancement and Other-Enhancement. Self-Enhancement is what it sounds like, making yourself look better whether it be with nice clothes, smelling nice, anything to make ourselves look more presentable. Other-Enhancement is for the benefit of those who see you to make yourself look good. Talking with them, coming prepared, things like that. Things like job interviews and meeting certain people for the first time require a bit of both of these. Going over a few different scenarios of that nature helped me put a few things together in the future whenever something like this may occur. It’s important to know things like this if you don’t want to stay in one job or go to graduate school. Making yourself more appealing to those who are going to see you could be a make or break that gets someone the job or a spot in that graduate program.

Having things like a list for when a job interview is coming up is good for reference. It could be a lifesaver as to whether that job is yours or not. I’ve used one just before about every interview I’ve had and it’s worked wonders.

Artifact 3

In the Module 6 item, we took five traits about ourselves, chose a situation, and describe how that trait was incorporated in said situation. This was another one of those self-reflection assignments. I personally like these because it’s something that I need to work more on. Like the assignment we did this semester with the pictures, it made me sit back and think about the different things that I do on a daily basis and how some of my traits incorporate into those things. The five that I chose for this were Patience, Humorous, Sensitive, Tolerance, and Quickness. Each one is used on a pretty frequent basis.

I chose this image because I have many more traits to me than just those five I listed. It also represents that I also have bad traits along with the good ones. I know for a fact that I am not perfect.

Artifact 2

For the Module 4 item, we watched a video about media coverage and how much it affects us. From watching that video, I can say for a fact that this happens today all the time on the news. They could take a small incident and blow it up to get the general public freaking out. The news stations, in my opinion, are very helpful don’t get me wrong, but they will take some stories and make them what they aren’t. It also comes down to the way they word their stories as well. Some of them that I’ve seen look to mean one thing, but after I look more into it, it means something else. The bottom line is that the news stations are able to put out some stories in such a way that it ends up making us panic at the end when we really didn’t need to. I myself don’t really keep up with the news that much due to this reason.

This was the image I took from the video I watched. Also explained in the item itself, it talks about the crime rate. Well from this view, it looks like the FBI has found more criminals than the justice department. When in turn, it just means that the FBI has received more reports of crimes. This doesn’t mean that the total amount of crime has risen.

Artifact 1

In this item, we had to go looking at personal ads who were looking for relationships. This one is deemed my favorite for the main reason of just being able to see all the things people are looking for. Some of them normal who are just looking for an everyday relationship like any other dating app or website. Then there were others who had very specific wants and absolutely bizarre usernames on the messaging service they used. I thought it was quite funny scrolling through and seeing some of these names as well as ad titles. I wouldn’t in all 21 years of life think to uses some of the titles I saw on here. As well, the who stereotype with men wanting nothing but sex and women wanting an official relationship is only half true from my findings. Yes, a majority of the men I saw on there did go on there for just sex, but a good amount of women were the same as well. More women were looking for a long term relationship, yes, but it seemed like they were balanced out by the amount who just wanted a one-night stand.

These were the top 3 characteristics each sex was looking for in their ads. I was intrigued by seeing “discreet” being a main one for men. As well l was also surprised in the number of women who were just looking for a good time. I understand that women lean more towards a longer, more serious relationship. Though at the same time, it was looking like the tides are changing more as time progresses.
