This unit has been established over the years for a culminating activity that takes place right before Thanksgiving. The Ruffner “Turkeybowl” allows students the chase for social engagement, competitive game play against each grade, and a game against the schools staff. The tournament of grade vs grade is played using the school’s own version of handball. This version is more like a game of ultimate football rather than the actual game of handball. The Volleyball game is played between staff and student. Because I was a guest in the school, I decided it best to stick with what they have always worked on this time of year. There were a lot of behavior issues that delayed or hindered practice time for the two grades that I observed and taught. Few game play opportunities happened between the discipline being handed out by my clinical teacher. I believe the lessons and culminating activity could bring great enthusiasm to the students if used in better manner.
