Four majors that ODU offers that relates to cybersecurity include computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, and criminal justice. Each of these majors can relate to cybersecurity in many ways that will develop skills and a better understanding of what cybersecurity is and prevent hackers from detaining secret information. Computer science relates to cybersecurity by giving the basic information on what is needed to start off in cybersecurity. It gives a deeper understanding of technology and networks needed to proceed in cybersecurity and a brief understanding of each network, how they solve the problems, and what is needed in order to keep hackers out of systems. This is the foundation that revolves around cybersecurity that teaches students what to use if encountering issues. Computer programming teaches students how to code and how to find out how to keep hackers away from breaking into a system. Computer programming also prepares students on how to create different ways in protecting a system from hackers. Computer engineering helps students recognize threats in systems, networks, and applications. It allows students to dig deeper into using firewalls and detection systems to support unauthorized access when working with networks and systems.  Cybersecurity mainly focuses on how to prevent crimes. ODU offering criminal justice teaches students what the names of crimes that are being committed are called, what students should do if they encounter these breaches by hackers, and understand the crime being committed. By recognizing these crimes it helps out way more knowing how to collect data through social media sites, emails, and phone records. I recommend taking these majors at Old Dominion University because this will easily guide you in the right direction and relates to cybersecurity in a way you would understand what’s being put in front of you to recognize and challenge your problem-solving skills that is a skill needed in cybersecurity.
