Four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals include confidentiality, security, implementation, and inaccuracies. First ethical issue that could arise would be security. Security is an ethical issue because people’s privacy can always be found by a hacker who wants to know more about the person or what they have that they privately don’t want anyone else to know a hacker may want from them. This means secret information like social security number, credit and debit card information, and medical information. The second ethical issue that could arise is inaccuracies. If something is inaccurate and is posted or released in public this can cause many problems for people who may have accidentally released secret information such as government information, which would cause massive problems. The third ethical issue which relates to security would be confidentiality. For example, if someone who secretly keeps their information stored in any app or browser makes a mistake and information gets out and doesn’t have great security usage behind it then it will result in leaks that could put this person’s information at risk. It doesn’t always have to be someone’s private information either, it can be government information that could potentially put the country at risk as well. Lastly, implementation is another ethical issue that could lead to false information provided by a user. Information that is implemented wrong can include medical information for patients, companies’ private information, and someone who works under the government that has private information saved on their flash drives as well. As I know each of these four points are different, they still apply to each other in different ways. People must be careful when exploiting information on the internet and recognize what hackers could use to get their private information. By understanding these four ethical issues this should prevent the use of private information being found by hackers.
