My name is Howard Spencer, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity at Old Dominion University with an interest in network security monitoring and installing and maintaining security software like firewalls and data encryption. Through many CYSE courses and lab experience, I have developed a strong interest in the skills and knowledge needed to work more efficiently. I am determined, responsible, and hardworking, and I am willing to learn. My interest in Cyber Security comes from wanting to understand how technology works, how information can be protected, and how businesses can defend themselves against cyber attacks. I have learned that cybersecurity is more than computers and technology. It requires effective communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. My goal is to continue developing my skills while gaining hands-on experience through internships and future employment opportunities. I also believe that my experiences outside of the classroom have prepared me and shaped me into the person I am professionally. Being involved in football taught me the importance of leadership, discipline, and accountability. I have learned how important it is to be someone others can depend on when working towards daily goals.
