  1. List the Community Partner / Organization you chose
    1. Provide a brief summary of experiences volunteers can have with the organization

“As a volunteer you can interact and assist with patients, answer phones, take things around the hospital to other nurses, make hospital beds, and even learn how to change leads on heart monitors”

  • Please write a description of the Community Partner(s) by answering these questions:
    • What is their purpose / mission?

Mission: To care for others as we would care for those we love – to enhance their well-being and improve their health

Vision: Riverside will be an integrated health system, trusted to provide our communities with care and services that enhance their quality of life

  1. What services does the partner provide?

Behavioral Health, Cancer Care, Diagnostic Imaging Services, Ear, Nose, and Throat Services, Emergency and Trauma services, Eye care, Gastroenterology, Heart and Vascular Health, Home Care, Hospice, Memory Care, Neurological and Spine institute, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Outpatient Clinical Nutrition and Physical Therapy Services, Plastic and Reconstructive Services, Primary Care, Radiosurgery, Stroke, Sports Medicine, Sleep Disorders, Telemedicine, Urgent care, Urology, and Women’s health – to name just a few.

  • What needs of the community do they address?

Riverside offers the Peninsula’s only Level II Trauma Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They are also recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

  • Why is this organization important to the community?

For more than 100 years, Riverside has made it their mission to take care of the community in order to meet the mission of caring for others as they would care for the ones they love. They provide health practices to the community, especially those like the Level II Trauma and NICU – which is only offered at Riverside.

  • Find one article / video about the organization and the work they are doing in the community.

  • After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, have your values, opinions, and/or beliefs about the importance of health changed or grown?  Be specific.

They have grown! Riverside makes it their mission to treat every patient like a loved one, which allows those to get the best care. Relating patients to loved ones makes staff want to do the absolute best they can at working to get patients healthy and happy again.

  • Thinking about the community partner:
  • How do these services relate to your intended career field?

They simply help others. They make it their job to ensure the community is happy and has the best quality of life by offering state of the art services to ensure of that. My main goal is to give back by way of helping others, and Riverside allows for just that.

  1. What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to?

It could also relate to hospital coordination and administrations. This enables patients to have a person to go to about hospital functions and after thoughts such as bills, nutrition, physical therapy, and scheduling for other services.

  • Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major?

I would!

  • Why or why not?

That would still allow me to work one on one with patients and give the best possible care I could, even if they are not directly under medical supervision and care, as they would be if I were a RN.
