Hey y’all! My name is Hannah Wolfe and as I mentioned before I am a current Mechanical Engineering Technology student at Old Dominion University. I was born and raised in Covington, Virginia where I still currently reside. I graduated in 2018 from Alleghany High School as an honor graduate and as the honor graduate from Jackson River Technical Center in welding. Although welding was something I really enjoyed (so much so that I ended up being 16th in the nation competing in SkillsUSA welding competitions), I realized that I wanted to take my education a bit further. Upon making this decision I enrolled in the Mechatronics Design Engineering Technology program at Virginia Western Community College. I completed the program in August 2020 and from there I have gotten to where I am now at ODU. Along with persuing my education, I have helped my dad and grandpa run our family auto body collision shop and hostessed at a local restaurant both for about 5 years now. I am excited to see where my education journey takes me and how it will guide me into my career.

Fluid Mechanics is a crutial part of the MET cirriculum. Since it is such an inportant part of earning this degree, I would assume that it will be valueable in helping understand other classes. By learning some of these concepts now and reusing them for other courses I think that it will help to keep my knowledge without forgetting so easily. Also, using the same concepts repeeatedly could give more real world examples that will be vital to understand depending on what career path I choose. In my opinion, the topics of fluid mechanics are not only helpful in numerous fields, but the work necessary to be successful in this course gives an insight of how challenging a career could be. The group project is a great exercise to help us as students realize how to critically think and research in order to obtain the needed values or equations. Working in a group also gives a sense of what a real work environment will be like where each employee has different strengths and weaknesses, but together can create stellar projects. Group work also gives a great sense of how important communication is in order to complete a project.

I am very eager to complete this course and see what else ODU has in store for me. I hope that by completing this degree I can not only find a career I enjoy, but also have a career that I can afford to live comfortably. I am looking forward to December 2022 and graduating. The sooner that happens, the sooner I can have things I have always dreamed of having, like a house with land, a barn, and a garage. But more importantly, the sooner I graduate, the closer I am to retirement! Only 45 more years.
