About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Kelly Hyatt and I am currently a senior at Old Dominion University. I am a psychology major with a minor in human services. I am in my last semester as an undergraduate and after I obtain my Bachelor’s degree, I am hoping to move on to earn my Master’s. I received my Associate’s Degree in Social Science from Tidewater Community College in 2019 and I am pursuing my education even further. In graduate school, I wish to pursue counseling. My overall academic goal is to obtain my Master’s in Counseling and find a career in counseling, possibly in a school setting. With psychology, I have always been interested in the mind and how it works, or in some cases, does not work. Starting in high school, I discovered I loved learning about mental health and the importance of keeping it maintained. Abnormal psychology was always a subject that kept my interest peaked, though I have enjoyed every psychology course I have taken in college. I decided to take Cross-Cultural Psychology because I believe it is important for everyone to understand cultures different from their own. I find different cultures to be incredibly interesting and want to expand my knowledge of how to communicate effectively. I believe this course will be beneficial in my professional career as you are not limited to one type of person or client in the field.

A little more about me personally, I am now 22 years old and I am from Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I still reside. I work at Five Below, and I have been there nearly four years. My interests and hobbies include exercise and reading. I discovered my love of exercising and physical fitness during the quarantine in 2020 due to COVID-19. I made an exercise routine for myself, and I am strict with it. I love how exercising makes me feel and the overall benefits it brings to my life. One of my other favorite activities is reading, which I discovered at a very early age. I have been reading for myself ever since I can remember, and now I enjoy reading horror or thrillers, particularly Stephen King novels. I like to push myself to try new things and activities, even if I find I do not enjoy it. I am eager to learn more and allow myself to grow as an individual. I am looking forward to this class and the lessons that can be learned from it!
