All of the equipment must fit into a 24′ x 40′ room (use the floor plan of the attached diagram). You can arrange the desktops and equipment any way you want, but try to ensure that the users will have enough space to sit and walk to the printer without bumping into each other and without having to walk over any cables.

You must use these 5-port switches for this exercise: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-ProSafe-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop/dp/B0000BVYT3/. You can choose any length of these pre-connectorized patch cables to connect the hosts and switches together: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-5-Pack-Snagless-Ethernet/dp/B00C2BJ664/. Note that you need to allow enough cable to plug into a desktop/printer/server, run along the wall or down to the floor, and again to plug into the switch. Also note that the cables come in packs of five – it’s okay to have a few feet of extra cable coiled behind a desktop if necessary.

My Submission:

This goal demonstrates my understanding of how setting up the network in a room should look. It gives me a more hands-on view of what networking actually looks like, rather than just concepts and ideas covered in other classes. This project, and a few others from this class, have been much closer to what the CompTIA Network+ Certification covers. These show relevant experience and understanding in the world of networking, as well as cybersecurity. If you don’t understand networking, cybersecurity will be much harder; you have to understand what you are trying to protect.

Intro Networking and Security This is a course on networking and security that introduces a student to fundamental concepts, technologies, components, and architecture of data and communication networks. By the end of this course, students can apply their knowledge to design and construct a secure local area network for any given scenario.
