Reflection Instructions
For this assignment, please reflect on the Fall 2023 semester, and your experience as a whole. For each question, please provide a few thoughtful, well constructed sentences.
Your First Semester
- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.
I learned a lot about the reality of college. I underestimated how tough it truly is. But some things that I have grown to learn are where and how to get help with classes, I have improved my study habits and priorities even if they were formed a bit late.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.
I was expecting a lot more time to hang out with my friends like in movies or hearing family talk about their college experiences, but in reality, hanging out with friends means studying.
- What is something you wish you had known 14 weeks ago?
I wish I had paid more attention to the basics of my classes and spent more time studying at the beginning. A lot of what I studied at the end was just some of the things I forgot at the beginning. This might have helped me avoid spending so much time cramming before exams.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester? I spent a lot more time studying for one specific class at the end of the semester versus spending a lot of time focusing on everything at the beginning of the semester.
- How have your study habits changed?
I probably spent more time studying near the end of the semester and focusing more on chemistry as mentioned above.
- Tell us about a resource you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.
I tried using the writing center on paper, which was okay, but I also downloaded Grammarly, which has done wonders for fixing my grammar.
I’ve also attended study sessions with the TA in chemistry, which helped me turn in the homework, but it still wasn’t enough for the exams.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?
When I have English next semester and more essays due I want to try the writing semester again.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, while some were in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between the content, and the subjects discussed. Discuss how these courses are tied together.
I was enrolled in SOC, HLTH, and CHEM
One of the things I enjoyed about CHEM was that at the beginning of each chapter, there were snippets of information connecting Chemistry to the health field. In SOC, Prof. Lopez loved connecting the chapters we would cover to health-related issues, especially public health issues.
