  1. How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology? My major is cybersecurity. When I was first deciding my major I really didn’t know what I was interested in until my friend introduced me to cybersecurity. He tried to explain what cybersecurity was and it was really interesting. I have always loved technology and have been interested in how technology effects our society. My major relates to cybersecurity technology because I hope to learn about the nuances of protecting citizens private information. Keeping my information private is extremely important to me just like it is to millions of other Americans. I wish we didn’t have to protect peoples technology from other peoples technology. I wish everyone would use their technology in a respectful and moral way, but thats just simply not the case. Somebody has to protect the innocent and I hope I am able to do that one day.
  2. Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity. Cybersecurity effects essentially all majors. From psychology to engineering to accounting to criminal justice, cybersecurity has a foot in the door in all of them. Every company needs to protect their servers and personal information, or they won’t be in business for very long. Psychiatrist have clients who expect their personal information to be protected at all costs. If a psychiatrist has notes on a patients personal life and that info gets leaked, it could be extremely embarrassing and detrimental to a persons mental health. Engineers who work for an employer are at risk of losing their jobs if a cybersecurity related incident occurs, and the employer could be at an even greater risk. Accountants work directly with a company’s financial situation. If a company’s financial situation gets leaked, investors could pull away and no longer support that company if they think they are in big trouble. Criminal justice majors are probably involved the closest with cybersecurity. Cybersecurity fights to protect people against illegal hackers or online terrorist, and it’s the criminal justice who locks them away.
