Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe. When computers were first invented people thought it would be just another fad like rollerblading, but computers are apart of our daily lives. Computers have become so vital to modernization, but they are also responsible for so many problems. Computers are capable of great things like instant connection to other people around the globe. We no longer live in the era of sending messages by boat or messenger pigeon. This means we can talk to loved ones who live in separate countries through social media. But, social media is at least partially responsible for my generation feeling so depressed and disconnected from reality. Computers have also let the world achieve a greater sense of peace. I believe we will never experience another world war because computers have allowed different countries to stay in constant contact. The downside is people can’t attack in person so they attack computers from a different country. They do things like leak secret information, interfere in elections, and cause mass hysteria by releasing false information. I know there is still war and evil things happening in the world today, but people are beginning to realize that war is not the answer. Computers have allowed scientist to make huge strides in the medical field. Medicine today is stronger and more reliable than it’s ever been, but this causes viruses to adapt and become even stronger so it feels like a never ending cycle.
How do engineers make cyber networks safer? Security engineers have an extremely important job. Their job is to test and screen security software and monitor networks and systems for security breaches. Think of them as a field marshal who oversees the battle and deploys troops, or anti-virus software, to combat weak spots in the defense. Their main job is to make sure no breaches are made, and if they do break through, they must know how to act. Some ways the engineers make networks safer is by developing a set of security standards and practices, create new ways to solve existing security issues, installing security software like firewalls and data encryption programs, etc.
