The Empathize mode is the work you do to understand people, within the context of your design challenge. It is your effort to understand the way they do things and why, their physical and emotional needs, how they think about world, and what is meaningful to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>WHY Empathize <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a design thinker, the problems you are trying to solve are rarely your own\u2014they are those of a particular group of people; in order to design for them, you must gain empathy for who they are and what is important to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>HOW to empathize<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Observe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> what people do and interact to uncover insights;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Watch and Listen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> these insights give you direction to create innovative solutions;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Engaging<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with people directly to reveal deeply held beliefs;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A good design is built upon beliefs and values.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Step 1: Empathy What is the Emphasize mode?
