Reflective Journal #6

  1. Describe five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field.

The businesses I’ve found within cybersecurity are: CrowdStrike, Darktrace, HackerOne, Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Kaspersky Lab.

CrowdStrike is an organization offers protection for cloud workloads and endpoints, as well as intelligence on potential threats and response services for cyberattacks.

DarkTrace continuously monitors your attack surface for risks, high-impact vulnerabilities, and external threats, while Darktrace PREVENT/End-to-End finds and prioritizes high-value targets and attack pathways to protect internal systems and assets.

HackerOne focuses on coordinating vulnerabilities, it also provides bog bounty systems and penetration testing tools.

Electronic Frontier Foundation is the preeminent non-profit organization in the realm of digital politics and the defense of civil liberties.

Kaspersky Lab is a company that provides antivirus services, password management, and other cyber security services.

  • What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?

I have appreciated all of the new information that I have gained from these classes. This course is very much like inter-disciplinary studies in the sense that it assists students with locating solutions to a variety of challenges by utilizing a range of various points of view. After receiving my degree, I believe that having this kind of expertise will be necessary because it is quite comparable to working in the corporate sector. Students who take classes on entrepreneurship will be better prepared to make rapid adjustments once they begin working in their chosen profession.

  • How did the entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?

I’m glad I took this class because it allowed me to hone my ability to make decisions and find solutions to problems in a way that is more in line with the realities of working a real job. I admitted at the beginning of this course that I’m not much of a self-starter, and since then, I’ve been working hard at my current position to change that about myself. Because I’ve been taking more initiative at work, I was even given a promotion there about a month ago. I believe when I switch to the cybersecurity space, I will be able to climb to corporate latter faster than other because of the skill I gained in this course.

  • What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?

My one and only recommendation for this class is that the various assignments be explained in greater detail. I participated in a group chat that was organized by a member of the class, and during that time, I was exposed to a variety of viewpoints regarding the proper way to do the various assignments. My opinion is that certain of the instructions need to be improved so that they are more understandable. When an instructor gives specific directions to a group, those instructions ought to be communicated to the rest of the class as well.

  • What’s next for you?

The next thing I need to do is start making connections at my current job so I can join a hacking team. I would love to be a part of the team that does security testing and learn more. I have always been curious about how thieves work, especially in the world of hacking.  Getting a job like this is my dream.
