Journal Entry # 14
Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal. Review what
the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you
think those offenses are serious.
Andriy Slynchuk describes five illegal online behaviors that are to be taken seriously. One major
violation is online piracy. Streaming movies or torrenting music on unofficial sites is serious
because it’s stealing from the creators and can get you sued for copyright infringement.
Another illegal online behavior is identity theft or impersonation, where someone uses another
person’s identity or personal info to deceive or defraud people. He also describes sharing other
people’s private data or photos without permission as an issue because it’s an invasion of
privacy that can put someone in danger and land you in legal trouble. Cyberbullying and trolling
make the list because it can escalate into harassment that might lead to criminal charges
because of the real harm it causes. Lastly, collecting personal information from children under
13 without parental consent is a serious violation because it violates strict child privacy laws
designed to protect children. These actions are considered serious online violations because
they break important laws and ethical boundaries that can cause significant harm to others, as
well as land you in major legal trouble or hurt someone in the real world.
