Study Habits
What classes are you doing well in, and why?

The classes I am doing well in are Chemistry Lab 106N, Health 101, and Interpreting the American Past history 104H. I am doing well in these classes because, in the lab, I can understand the experiments and data sheets. In history, I am doing well because I understand the readings even though it is a lot to read, and in Health 101, I am doing well because I am learning more about my major and the departmental
requirements for my program.

What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?
Philosophy 110p because some of the prompts are hard to understand and put into an
argumentized essay, chemistry 105n because trying to retain the information long enough for my
next exam.

What changes have you made (i.e., amount of time, location, campus resources, study
strategies, etc….)?

I spend more time in the Perry Library by myself, or sometimes I will go with my friends to
study and take more notes for my classes. We also help each other study as well. I have a
chemistry tutor in the new chemistry building that I meet with during my free time to help with homework or any questions I have. For my philosophy 110P class, I use tutotr.com, and I will be
using the writing center in the library to get help on some papers.

Transition to College
What expectations did you have coming to college?
The expectations I had were that the
college work was going be a lot.
Have those expectations come to fruition, or not? Yes, the amount a class work it hard to keep
up with some times but it’s manageable.
How? In what way is your college experience different from what you expected? In the
beginning I expected that it was going to be hard to make friends but now I have met some
amazing people and we always study together.

What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester? That there is a lot of
options to do as far classes like what to take and what not to take.

If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to
college?
Being away from my family and having to wake myself up every day and get ready for class.

Easiest challenge to overcome? Was being able to make friends.

Major
Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not
know at the beginning of the semester.
I learned that Old Dominion University has
an undergraduate student nurses’ association and I really want to join.
Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you
are having.
No, I want to be a pediatric nurse practitioner one day.
Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning
more about?
Yes, elementary education.

Connecting to Campus
Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which
resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.
I am
struggling with chemistry 105n and my Philosophy 110p class and the resources I use
are chemistry tutoring in the new chemistry building and an online resource for
Philosophy 110p called tutor.com they seem to be helping a little bit.

Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU
community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help
you?
There has been my friend group and we help each other out a lot and my
advisor Mrs. Haben makes me feel confident and comfortable on campus as well as
the rest of my professors. Being in the health professions group makes me feel more
confident in my major and learning about it more.

Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get
involved or not get involved?
No, I have not yet but I would love to go to one for
undergraduate student nurses ‘association here at old dominion university.

Themester: Sustainability (Environment)
What new sustainable practices have you learned about so far this semester
(think back to our guest speakers Dr. Hawkins and Dr. Hoglund!)?
How there
are multiple different groups that fall under the sustainable practices and some of
them are about are health and the food we eat.

What sustainable practices would you like to begin participating in? I would love
to go out and volunteer with a group for and sustainable project on the water systems
here in Norfolk VA and how some of them work and are being used.

Is there anything more you would like to learn about sustainability for the rest
of the semester?
The water and water systems here in Norfolk Va.
