Article Review #1 Inequality Against Women In Iraq

Introduction: How does this article relate to the principles of social science? 

The topic of gender-based discrimination and online harassment of women in Iraq is a scientific subject. It jumps deep into the interplay between gender, technology and society; and it unfolds and analyze the nature of power, culture and norms that dictate online behaviors and create individual experiences in the digital space. Insights from social sciences situate the issue within the ‘big’ picture that describes the societal, cultural and psychological drivers behind discrimination and online harassment based on gender. 

Study’s research questions & methods:

The study reported similar research questions: How common is discrimination and cyberbullying against women in Iraq? What is the role of media in encouraging such behaviors? What role do societal norms play in how people behave online? How does cyberbullying impact women’s health? How can we overcome and alleviate these practices? The study uses a commendable mixed methods approach that combines both quantitative research methods and qualitative research methods using both quantitative and qualitative hypotheses tests. On one hand, quantitative research methods such as surveys and statistical analysis may be used to address common research questions. On the other hand, qualitative research methods such as interviews, focus groups, and content analysis may be used to elicit the detailed experience and perspectives about women who experienced discrimination and cyberbullying. Types of data and analysis performed: 

Researchers used surveys, interviews, and media analysis to capture how discrimination and cyberbullying cause trouble for women in Iraq. The issue of discrimination and cyberbullying of women in Iraq reshapes how a group navigates digital spaces. It exposes concerns many are having about harassment and exploitation. By studying the experiences of women dealing with harassment, the researchers extend the voices of the marginalized and advocate for rights to safety, respect, and fairness on digital platforms. 

How this contributes to in-class presentations: 

This research about how discriminatory comments and dehumanizing cyberbullying comments are fuelling hate speech created greater awareness among women in Iraq and the need for policy changes and community action.

Overall contributions to societies: 

The research shows an alarming insight into how women’s health is affected by online harassment, calling for better education and support networks for emotional well-being. This research speaks to many women worldwide striving for gender equality, online safety, and social fairness.
