I continued working alongside physicians, nurses, students, administrative staff, and community partners while gaining a better understanding of how different organizations work together to improve access to healthcare and other resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My responsibilities remained the same throughout the end of the internship such as obtaining patient vitals, completing patient assessments, assisting with blood work, following up with patient care, and helping with referrals and preventive screenings. However, during the second half of the internship, I was more involved in community based activities. I spent some volunteer hours preparing healthy meals for families through the ForKids Foundation and distributed healthy recipes, educational materials, and Naloxone kits at the Mount\u2019s Health fair. I gained enough knowledge about the Healthy Chesapeake organization to speak with other representatives from different organizations to explain the mission, values, and services they provide, while also strengthening my professional communication and networking skills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I attended a community meeting involving the Chesapeake Police Department, which showed me there are other ways to improve community health outside of providing medical treatment. Issues involving public safety, food insecurity, access to resources, transportation, and communication between communities and law enforcement can all influence the health of a community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, my last 100 hours strengthened my clinical, communication, leadership, and community outreach skills.
