Consulting & Internships
What you learn in the classroom matters, and so does what happens in the real world. This is why all of our students get extensive hands-on experience working with and helping real organizational clients in the real world as part of real applied class or lab projects. In fact, several of our students recently have won or placed in the Annual Personnel Testing Council - Metropolitan Washington (PTCMW) Graduate Student Consulting Competition in recent years– a testament to their applied skills.

Almost every ODU student completes a summer internship, whether targeting an academic or applied career. This experience gives you a very personal window into the realities of working within an organization to improve both the lives of employees and organizational successes.

"In my internship at Aon, I have conducted adverse impact, pass rate, and score distribution analyses in SPSS and R; mapped client core competencies to Aon’s assessment battery; developed SJT and structured interview items; facilitated focus groups for content validation; prepared presentations for meetings with clients; and conducted structured interviews as an assessor." - Kate Warnock

"As an Intern at DCI Consulting, I have run EEO analytics, such as adverse impact analyses and pay equity analyses for clients. I also participated in mock audits for clients and prepared internal and external-facing materials to brief clients and consultants on regulatory changes in the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCCP).
