Cybersecurity Technology and Employee Training: A Crucial Balance

In the world of cybersecurity, human resources and technological resources are key components in a company. Both are essential to a successful framework but require a balance when it comes to funding these activities.

Assessment

The balance between human resources and additional cybersecurity resources differs between companies. To know the needs of your company you need to research your greatest security risks and see who or what is posing an issue in the company. If the problem is the lack of awareness, you would attempt to push more budget towards sufficient training, however if the technology itself becomes an issue you must allocate funds towards the acquisition of functioning materials. These two things cannot work alone and require a precise judgment to create a positive relationship between the two.

Cybersecurity Technology

Cybersecurity technology is an integral part of a company’s protection against cyberthreats. Things such as hot sites and extra firewalls are prime examples of additional technologies to protect a company’s assets and data. Many of these technologies are essential to a businesses security and pose as the strongest front against things such as malware and viruses. Technology is ever changing and so ways of stealing data will follow these trends. With the constant evolution of protection and viruses alike, a company should prioritize the solidity of their defense. To put more budget into cybersecurity technology will leave more room for human error as the technology will assist the employees by blocking certain actions and threats without the human having to do it themselves. For example, a firewall blocking off unauthorized access to a network without the employees having to take action themselves (Kelley 2024).

Human Resources

Human resources includes the sufficient training of a company’s employees. Organizations training regiment will completely determine the quality of work their employees produce. With improper preparation and training employees could endanger an entire company’s infrastructure through simple mistakes. Employees are susceptible to phishing, inappropriate data sharing, and malware breaches (Human Factor). The employees should know what to do in certain situations and to know what not to do in those very same instances. Human error is a large reason security breaches occur, with more training I believe that this number would dwindle. No matter how good a technology is, it will always be limited by its user, so I believe that training employees should get a similar but lower budget when compared to additional cybersecurity technology.

Conclusion

To bring a cost effective solution to the balance of employee training and cybersecurity technologies, I believe that cybersecurity technologies take the larger allocation of funds due to their overall importance regarding the safety of a company. However, human resources also deserve a large allocation due to the possible threat of human error. In the end, a proper balance is needed between the two as they are close to equally important. One cannot function without the other and must work in tandem to ensure safety.
