Journal #1
The place on campus I would select to talk about would be the recreation center. In the recreation center it has a workout area where students can lift weights or hop on a treadmill to do some cardio. They also have a mountain climbing wall in the front that I’ve seen students use for fun. The area I’m in the most is the gym where they have basketball courts and volleyball nets if they are setup. Overall the on-campus recreation center has all the things I need to have fun outside of class and take my mind off schoolwork for a bit.

My writing goal is to become an overall better writer to help me do well in 110 and to prepare me for future work. Skills I think I do well are coming up with content after a prompt has been given and putting my thoughts down on paper. These skills have given me a boost when writing papers because I can usually jump right into it and not have to sit too long and come up with ideas. A writing skill I can improve on are the way I structure my essays, my grammar, and the way I conclude papers. Lastly, I would like to develop a prewriting stage in my writing process

My name is Isaiah Vaughan and I would like to share a little bit about myself. I am 24 years old, a military veteran, and currently a college student at Old Dominion University. I did four years in the military to help me mature after high skill and to obtain my Gi bill so, I could attend school for free. I’m from Virginia Beach and that’s where I live now with my cousin and dog. The type of dog I have is a Shiba Inu and her name is Stella. The degree I’m hoping to obtain my cybersecurity degree from ODU in the next 3 years and then go on to get my masters right after

When I was younger, I had a huge fear of heights. I would refuse to go to amusements parks because of the huge heights and drops from the rides and I wouldn’t go on some family vacations because I would refuse to get on planes. Right after high school I joined the Army, and this helped me get over my fear of heights. The first place I was stationed was Alaska. The only way I was getting to Alaska was on a plane, so I had no choice. My first time on a plane was headed to Alaska from Georgia so I had a few layovers in-between. This meant I had to get on multiple flights, and this really had me nervous. I got on my first flight and quick realized that it all wasn’t so bad. When we got up I got to see how beautiful but small everything was. When I got on my second flight headed to Alaska, I wasn’t even afraid anymore and even welcome it and was excited.

As I kid, I was overly fascinated with space and rocket ships. I would even tell my family and friends that I would become an astronaut and be the first man to land on Neptune. I choose Neptune because my favorite color is blue and in picture Neptune looks like a beautiful blue ball. As a kid I obviously didn’t realize that would be impossible, but I was extremely confident. I thought space was so cool because of the mystery and how beautiful the planets and stars are.

My favorite video game is a multiplayer online battle arena called League of Legends. League of Legends is played on PC and was developed and published by a company called Riot Games. I got into League of Legends my senior year of high school when I got bored of older games I was playing and it’s a free game. I downloaded and after a quick tutorial I was in and having the most fun gaming in a while. The first night I downloaded I played until 6 a.m. the next day. Luckily it was the weekend, so I didn’t have to worry about school or making my mother upset. I was enjoying myself so much that I called my best friend and explained the game to him. I convinced him to download the game and just like my he was instantly hooked. This all happened in 2014 and to this day my best friend and I still play league together and we even recruited and got more of our friends to play.

When I was in the army my first duty station was Alaska. When I got my orders telling me I was headed there I had no clue what to think. In my mind Alaska was a place in the middle of the arctic tundra where it was frozen year-round, and people lived in igloos, so I wasn’t excited at all. This all quickly changed when I got there. My flight landed and I was on my way to my living quarters when I got to see how beautiful the place was. There were mountains you could see, a big city in the center, there were plenty of people around, and not a single igloo in site. After about a month in Alaska I was in love. I got into a lot of outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, snow machining, and snowboarding. I even got the opportunity to see the northern lights my first month there. Alaska is beautiful and I plan on going back again when I have my own family so they can see and get to do some of the activities that I did.

Once upon a time long ago there was a kid named Itachi. Itachi was a very talented fighter and extremely smart for his age. He decided to become a ninja and he joined an organization to help him excel in fighting. The organization he joined was a very secret one and they ordered him to execute his entire clan and family. Itachi had to follow the orders and he wiped them all out but couldn’t find it in himself to kill his younger brother, so he let him live. Itachi’s younger brother name was Sasuke and he hated his brother for what he did. He promised himself he would work hard and become an amazing fighter to get revenge for what he did. 10 years later the two are men now and they meet. Itachi and Sasuke get into a fight that lasted 10 hours. Sasuke is the winner of the fight and at the end he asks if his brother has any last words and Itachi says “I’m sorry.”

There was once this young adult named Luffy and his goal in life was to become a pirate and find the biggest treasure in world called the one piece. Luffy started with just himself as captain of his pirate crew and needed more members. He set sail on a rowboat and started his adventure. He got a full crew in a year which included a swordsman named Zorro, an archer named Uswop, a navigator named Nami, and a medic named Chopper. Luffy and his crew set sail and met many friends and foes on there search for the one piece treasure. Even though they are pirates they are nice and help the people on the various island they dock on, so they have a lot of people routing for them on their journey. Will Luffy and his crew ever find the one piece?

I grew up really into technology and electronics. Since I have aged and gotten older the more, I have gotten into it all. With that I did some research and taught myself how to build my own personal computer. I build my first computer in 2015 and since then I’ve built a total of 9 now. I have built some for friends so they can game and even work associates for hobbies like music production and photography. It started with building computers and now I’m teaching myself how to code. With coding I’m going to learn how to make websites for people and add it to my resume and hopefully that will give me more opportunities when I start looking for jobs.

I grew up being raised by only my mother and without my father. I’ve haven’t seen my dad since I was a young kid, so I don’t even know what he looks like. Growing up even though my mom was doing it alone she managed to get my whatever I asked for. My mom put a lot of emphasis on teaching me “how to be a man” because she wanted me to grow up respecting woman and taking ownership. Now that I’m an adult I work hard for the things I want in life for myself and to also make my mother happy and proud of the man she raised. She tells me I’ve done a good job so far with the military career I had and next I hope to make her happy and proud when I get my degree.

In my life I would like to travel the world. I would like to visit each country if possible and learn about as many cultures as I can. With the traveling I want to eat at the best restaurants in the area and even try some different and what American people would consider weird and unusual. So far, the places I have visited include Guam, Japan, and Korea. I got the chance to visit all of those during my time in the military and enjoyed my time in each place. The next two places I’m currently plan on going are to Bali and then Amsterdam by the end of next year

My name is Isaiah and I have a Dunkin Donuts addiction. I got to Dunkin Donuts pretty much every day and it’s because they have two thing, I feel like I need, donuts and coffee. I realized recently that this is becoming a problem because monthly I’m spending too much money there. This week I started to limit myself to only going there twice a week and budgeting myself to $15 dollars a week. By doing this I’m hoping to drift away from it and drop the addiction to their donuts and coffee permanently and saving myself a lot of extra money a month.

My favorite football team is the New England Patriots. The Patriots recently couldn’t make a deal with our super star quarterback Tom Brady and he signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This really got me sad because since I’ve been a fan of the team Tom Brady has been our star and him leaving could mean the team may not do as good. The NFL draft is upcoming and what I’m hoping for is that the Patriots draft a new young quarterback with potential and he becomes our new superstar and leads the team to championships like Tom Brady did for us the last 20 years

The coronavirus has caused issues and complications in everyone’s life around the globe. There are people getting sick, fire and furloughed, killing people. Since the start of the pandemic in America my schooling situations has changed. All my classes were in person on campus but got changed to online to keep everyone safe. Although a lot of people were furloughed and fired I didn’t and got more hours and worked more than before the virus. Since the virus and me working with the general public I unfortunately haven’t been able to see or spend time with my family. This is because my grandmother is old and lives with my parents so just to be safe, they asked me to stay at my place. I’m hoping this is all over soon and all get to return to our regular lives.
