Mid Semester Reflection

Learning Style

My learning style is NF: iNtutitive / Feelers – Description. The assessment didn’t surprise me because I have taken test like this before. I am very impatient and I always want things my way and if they don’t go my way I don’t want to be a part of what’s going on or whatever the case may be. I learned that being that way isn’t going to get me nowhere in life, you have to start at the bottom before you can get to the top. I also realized that I have to be patient and I have to take my time, I can’t rush things I don’t understand. What I didn’t know about my learning style that was Albert Einstein and Leonardo DaVinci are two of many famous NFs.

Study Habits

I normally study in my dorm room but sometimes the dorm isn’t the best place to study. Quiet hours aren’t until ten o’clock pm, so no one has to be quiet during the day. When I study during the day I normally always get distraction due to the noise or someone wanting to do an activity on campus. So, most of the time I tell myself to study at night because there are normally no distraction and mostly everyone is doing their homework then. I really have no problem studying at night, that’s when I actually feel like studying. The way I study is with flashcards or quizzing myself. I tend to get the best grades on my test and quizzes when I use flashcards. I think everyone should use flashcards, it is the basic way and best way to study because you’re basically giving yourself a little test that you can remember especially if your teacher gives you the key terms.

Transition to college

College has been what I expected, I knew that it was going to be stressful, a lot of work, and harder grading. I knew those things were going to happen but I took it as a joke in the beginning and didn’t study thinking, I would know what I’m doing when it comes to test time. Well I guess that was wishful thinking because the first test I took didn’t go so well. Ever since then I would study and go to study sessions, I can’t afford to fail. This isn’t high school anymore professors aren’t going to push you if you don’t want to do it and it would also be a waste of money, college is very expensive. I actually do live on campus and it has been a big struggle for me. I am so used to be being in my own room, not sharing anything, and being as loud or quiet as I want. Everyone didn’t get raised the same way, so there are two different things going on at the same time. I also choice to live on campus, so I am just going to have to deal with it.

Connecting to campus

I haven’t really had any problems on campus but I did sick and I didn’t know that we had a nurse on campus. If I would have known, I never would struggle with that sickness for so long. I would like to know more about math and science tutoring program because those are the two subjects that I struggle in. I haven’t gone to tutor thus far, only because the stuff we were doing in the beginning, I remembered from high school. I also haven’t gotten any help from anybody yet, because I’m really an independent person, I normally don’t seek for help until I am struggling and can’t get it on my own. I haven’t attended an interest meetings for a club because I’m trying to get the hang of college and balancing everything. I feel as if once I get familiar with everything and have better time management I will get more involved with things on campus.
