WEEK 1 JOURNAL ENTRY

The areas that I would like to focus my career on are detailed in the NICE
Workforce Framework areas of Implementation and Operation, Protection and Defense,
and Investigation.
These categories are what I look for in my future career as well as what I enjoy
doing in my current role. As a technician and systems administrator, my job centers
around technical support, systems administration as well as data analysis and incident
response. The Protection and Defense areas are what interest me the most when it
comes to considering federal and law enforcement roles. I have had limited experience
with digital forensics, cybercrime investigation and threat and vulnerability analysis. Yet
in the work that I have done in my current role, I have found those tasks to be engaging
and interesting work. A great motivator for my career choices is ensuring the safety of
the community and society. With how interconnected our world has become and is
becoming, filling a job role that protects people in the cyberspace is something I would
like to do.
The areas that appeal the least to me would be Oversight and Governance and
Cyberspace Effects. The factors that do not interest me are that of management, policy
making and policy development. I enjoy working with people, cases and incidents and
equipment out in the field. It would be a gross generalization to assume that people in
these fields do less of that. However, policy development is more detached from the
field work that investigators and systems administrators would be exposed to. I would
rather have incident response and investigation be my day-to-day responsibilities than
policy development and governance.
