Reflective Letter

Transfer & Connections to Discipline

I think the courses that helped me the most with this class were my previous Japanese classes and the two writing classes that I’ve taken. In this class, we did a lot of writing activities, so my previous experience in writing helped, even though it was in English. For example, when doing the RWPA exercises, I used what I learned about answering prompts in English, even though it was in Japanese.

Additionally, we did groupwork where we relied on each other to complete parts of the assignment, which definitely carries over to doing work in the engineering field, as you often will work in groups where you rely on others to do their work in order to do yours.

Self-Assessment and Reflection

This semester, I found that it was difficult for me to start using Japanese again. before starting class in January, the last time I used Japanese was May of the previous year. I made the mistake of not practicing Japanese much in the time between taking classes, which definitely made me understand why I should be continuously studying, even if I’m not in class. In the future, I think I will continue to study Japanese on my own, so that I am prepared next time I take a Japanese class. I think this also influenced my learning process by forcing me to realize how what I do in my personal time can affect my performance in school.
