I have been excited to take this class ever since I registered for it. COMM 372T falls under the impact of the new technologies section of my major requirement, so that is originally how it caught my eye. Upon reading the class description and syllabus, I began to get more excited about being there. We get to talk about things that I think are actually interesting like how new media relates to the world and people around me. I think learning about how certain media can influence your personal opportunities like school or a job are important too. Things like creating this e-portfolio are forms of new media that can be very very helpful, along with online resumes and applications, and can greatly improve your professionalism and chances of being seen by employers. Some things that I have been looking forward to in class are looking at things like Tiktok, YouTube, and other websites that I think have the biggest impact on the population. The rise and fall of Facebook, how media affects the government and politics, and how media technologies can help or hurt the medical field are all topics I would like to cover in the class. 

Setting up this e-portfolio was rather easy for me. My health 101 teacher from last semester introduced me to WordPress, and I think it is much easier to use than Wix. Throughout that class, we went over the do’s and don’ts of what to put on a portfolio and how to avoid looking unprofessional. Since the nursing program at Old Dominion looks at wordpress, it is important to have a good looking site to get accepted in. I have two accounts on wordpress, one for COMM and one for Nursing. I hope to curate a good portfolio for both- this one to get a good grade, and the Nursing one to look as good as I can for the future of my college career.
