Your First Semester
- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.
I now have a better understanding of what college expectations are and the level of work I have to put in for my classes.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.
I was expecting the first semester to be easy and that I would perform well which ended up being the case.
- What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?
I wish I knew what times the gym was busy so I could better plan my workouts to go when there are less people.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?
I spent nearly none of my time at the beginning studying but now I study and do schoolwork outside of class for at least 2-5 hours a day
- How have your study habits changed?
I’ve begun going to the library more to utilize the large whiteboards so I can have more space to study with friends.
- Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.
The study rooms in the dorms are very useful as they are quiet big and have whiteboards.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?
Studying everyday the week prior to an exam has been very helpful.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together.
I am not in the class SOC 201S or CHEM 105N or CHEM 106N however my History class has mentioned some ideas of working in a health profession similar to the professionals we were introduced to in health 101.
Parallel Plan
- This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
- Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?
Possibly recreational therapy or athletic training since they are similar to physical therapy
- What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?
If something doesn’t work out having a back up plan can be useful so I have something to fall back on.
- How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?
Minoring in recreational therapy is said to look very good when applying to pt school.
