Artifact 3

For this assignment I choose the artifact from module 11 because this chapter content was the most engaging for me as I am very interested in how people empathize and why people react to others depending on the circumstances and situation. I liked this activity, because as several other activities we have done beforehand I enjoy the activities that involve me thinking of the people I engage with such as family and friends.

This activity made me think about the people in my life and to rate them as selfish or unselfish and happy or unhappy. This is something I think people my age struggle with as we are going through life and realizing who are your close friends and who are just acquaintance friends. I learned from this chapter how people can react to different situations and what other people’s responses or lack of can influence others responses and reactions.

I added a visual representative of someone sharing and offering their umbrella to another person as this chapter covered a lot on selfishness and selflessness.

Artifact 2

The second Top Artifact that I chose for this assignment is the Archive 6 from Module 8 because I found the information in chapter 6 of our book the most interesting so far. Being a person who is and identifies as a biracial person, I have experienced and witnessed prejudices and discrimination. Questions on discrimination have always boggled my mind and from the material that we have covered has more explained a way of understanding how this happens and what contributes to prejudices. In this assignment we were to take from the list of adjectives and match them up with each ethnic/racial group that best described the group. This assignment forced us to associate general stereotypes with the group that it “best fits” based on general stereotypes that are common and known.

I believe that this assignment has expanded my knowledge as it made me think of the stereotypes of these groups of people that I know and have heard, but personally do not automatically associate with those group of people. I learned from our reading that there are many factors that contribute to prejudices and discrimination and that it usually cannot be narrowed down to one specific area. I included a visual representation of children of different races playing together because as much as this section taught us about discrimination I do believe there are many out there that try their best to be inclusive to all people.

Artifact 1

The first archived assignment I enjoyed the most was archive #2 from module 4. I enjoyed this assignment because it showed us a 20-20 report that was based on how media coverage affects societal over stimulation. This assignment really stood out to me as it has become extremely important to check your news sources for legitimacy in current times as there are so many “news” sources out now and more prevalent everywhere that people tend to believe a news article at face value because it sounds believable. I see this a lot when scrolling on Facebook as people tend to share things that they either have not read the content of the link or article they have shared or they have to not vetted the sources of the article, while they will stand behind the context of it wholeheartedly. I think that this video/assignment has further expanded my knowledge as I am more cautious when reading news sources online and have a tendency to scroll and seek multiple sources relating to the entire article before sharing or trusting the information. I chose to include a screenshot of an article that I found from my homepage.

I included this as it is a good example of a headline from an article that is intended to shock and entice the potential reader as they scroll past it on their homepage. I, among probably many other people saw this article and thought “hmm, this sounds interesting” and that is the reason I decided to click and read it. After this assignment I did check the source of what platform it was written for/on, the author, and checked as I read for grammatical errors. I believe even just those few things can help vet a news source for legitimacy of their information. As this article is written and distributed by BBC, I believe it is a reliable source for what information it is providing.
