As a public health professional, my goal is to inspire and encourage everyone I connect with while improving my community’s health. My top three areas of interest in public health are Epidemiology, Environmental Health – particularly water health and safety, and public health research. My interest in Epidemiology stems from my desire to improve the health of more than one person at a time; by focusing on prevalence and reducing infectious diseases, I can help populations and individuals. As for my interest in environmental health, particularly waterways, this connects with my upbringing in coastal Virginia. Water connects people and is a vital resource, so protecting our waterways is essential to ensuring good community health. And for public health research, new public health interventions and discoveries cannot happen without those looking for the answer to questions. Research and the findings help shape the public health world, allowing me to investigate questions from all my areas of interest. I plan on contributing to public health by being an advocate for the people while always asking questions to better the health of everyone. ODU’s MPH program has not only given me to skills to achieve my goals but allowed me to discover my passion for public health.
