Hacking, identity theft, piracy, malware distribution, and online
harassment are the five most serious of the 11 unlawful online acts listed on
the Clarion blog. Hacking breaches private systems and exposes sensitive
data often leading to financial loss and security risks. Identity theft disrupts
lives by stealing personal information leading to financial fraud and
emotional stress for victims. Piracy violates intellectual property rights
depriving producers and industries of just compensation. The rise of malware
damages personal and corporate information renders systems unusable and
costs businesses billions to restore. Victims of cyberstalking or online
harassment suffer severe psychological damage endangering their safety and
well-being. These violations are severe because they undermine trust,
security, and personal rights, causing harm on individual, societal, and
economic levels.
