Journal Prompt:

Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal. Describe the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.

Response:

I think that the first serious violation that I will discuss is collecting information about children. I think collecting any information on a child for illegal behavior is in no way acceptable because it can put that child at risk. For example, child pornography is a very serious violation that exploits and abuses a child and can cause many negative outcomes for their well-being. I’ll talk about bullying and trolling as the next major offense. I think this is a serious violation because you never know what the victim is going through and it can affect an individual’s mental health and well-being. Bullying and trolling online is a big issues among children and teenagers. Illegal searches on the internet are a serious violation that many people still undertake. Maybe they are trying to sell or conduct business where they shouldn’t with the illegal searches. Using Torrent Services is another major violation that I believe is a serious topic. I think this because individual work that took them time, money, and effort to create is being streamed for free for people that don’t want to pay to have the luxury of watching or owning the film. Faking your identity online is another serious violation because people can use these identities for fraud, cyber stalking, and harassment. This can lead to distress in a person’s life that is being targeted by the fake accounts and it violates the terms of service of the online platform which can result in legal actions or suspension of the account.
