Due to me writing this reflection later I have decided to write this reflection on my first month working at Virginia529. My first week there was getting me used to the company and getting to know my fellow colleagues and what the company stands for. I also had different training I had to complete to be aware of potential threats and what to do if a situation occurs. The second week I focused more on meeting with the people in my group and they discussed what their positions are and what they do for the company. I think this was really good because it showed me that I like more of the governance side than the more technical side. The team also started introducing me to the software that they use to keep the company secure. I also started going to all of the weekly meetings the team would have. For example, on Thursdays at 10 we have Kanban with the IT Operations department. The reason security has to go is because we have to make sure the security part of all the operations is implemented. We have to make sure that all of the servers and workstations are being secured properly to make sure that they are safe from attacks. In the second week moving into the fourth week The work that I did was working a lot with spreadsheets. I had to use tenable, Splunk, HX, Aura, and other software’s to compare to our servers and workstations list to make sure devices are being scanned and on the software’s we implemented to scan our devices. I am very happy with how my internship is going and I think the first few weeks I’ve had have really helped me get a clearer idea of what I want to do after graduation. I think that it has been harder for me to know since I’ve only been with this major for three semesters so I am still learning what I want to do for my career path.
