Gene editing is a dangerous game to play. There are still too many safety concerns and unknows when it comes to gene editing. It also can produce unwanted side effects that could potentially cause problems in the future. Also, just the lack of information of how it will affect future generations from someone who had their genes edited is scary unknown. It doesn’t seem worth it to solve a genetic problem when the side effects could be even worse than the original problem. It also begs the moral questions of is it right? Will it lead to the elite creating “perfect” babies? Is there a possibility that it will create an ethnocentric society, and the ones who are not edited are discriminated against, or the flip side will the edited people be discriminated against. I believe that this could turn into Pandora’s box. Scientist and ethical experts need to make very carful decisions about how we proceed with this.
