What is the SCADA System?

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition is referred to as SCADA. It is a type of control system made to gather information from industrial machinery. SCADA systems are widely used in industry for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition of industrial processes (Daneels, A., & Salter, W. (1999). SCADA systems provide high-level control, management, and supervision of industrial processes by utilizing computers, networks, and graphical human-machine interfaces (HMIs). SCADA networks are critical to industrial operations, but they are made up of hardware and software that can be easily hacked, making SCADA security increasingly important. 

How does the SCADA System work?

The capability of SCADA to monitor and control systems in your facility from different locations, including remote sites, is one of its key benefits. Depending on how the SCADA control system is set up, the operator station overlooking the industrial plant, the HMI next to the machinery, or even the employee’s house can all provide a view of the status of the production operations. A SCADA environment can also be influenced and managed without needing to react immediately to every event. When sensors identify errors, operators can specify the completion of certain actions using logic-based rules. One of the most serious issues with SCADA cybersecurity is that most SCADA systems are not designed with security in mind. Engineers who design and connect SCADA systems frequently lack the knowledge required to include effective security controls in the system.

In conclusion, it serves a major purpose in businesses and corporations all over the world. Industrial processes rely heavily on SCADA networks, but because they are composed of easily hackable hardware and software, SCADA security is becoming more and more crucial. One of the main advantages of SCADA is its ability to monitor and manage systems in your company from various places, including distant sites.
