Spanish Culture:
Along with language and grammar differences, the culture is also very different from what I learned. An example of this when I found out that most college students live with their parents. This is very different from my own culture because here in the United States you are expected to move out and live on campus when you are in college. Going along with this, here in the states you are expected to be living on your own when you are around the ages eighteen to twenty but in South American countries this isn’t the case. Another difference is college prices. In South American countries, they’re way cheaper than they are here in the United States.
Reflection:
I remember when I was in high school and decided to take Spanish my freshman year, and I completely failed. Learning languages has always been very hard for me especially when it comes to learning their grammar rules. Back in high school, I certainly didn’t learn that as I should and the same thing can be said about the vocabulary. When it came time for the orals, I did terribly because I didn’t know how to form proper sentences. I like to say I grew a lot since then as now I can form proper sentences and know more vocabulary than ever before. Orals are still a struggle for me because I feel like my brain doesn’t register the meaning of what is being asked when I hear it, but when I look at it from I can do it quite easily.
