Discussion Board: The NIST Cybersecurity Framework – Due 9/11

The NIST Cybersecurity Framework is beneficial to any organization that is willing to build or maintain their business while limiting cyberattacks. NIST also advances understanding and improves the management of privacy risks, some of which relate directly to cybersecurity. The Framework provides a common organizing structure for multiple approaches to  cybersecurity by assembling standards, guidelines, and practices that are working effectively  today.  I think organizations can use NIST Cybersecurity Framework to build their online security and expand organizations fro the better; without having the fear of any important information being put out.

Even though NIST is optional for your business or workplace; I would still use and manage It for my workplace. It’s extra security and can even remover you from an attack!

Protecting Availability

As having the responsibility for a public trading company, I would enforce the act of the CIA Triad, and a backup system. Having this public program that can be hacked or tampered with at any time, I would involve Integrity from the triad. Integrity would make sure that the data is trustworthy and accurate. Integrity can play a huge part in public trading. You need to make sure that your information is reliable and accurate. If any information isn’t reliable or accurate, it can turn investors off with the lack of organization and integrity. Another protection I would set up is a backup plan. Being able to have this backup plan will make sure that any of my data that is tampered with can be recovered. The type of backup I would use is an Incremental backup plan. It will make sure that all of my data; even my new updated data, will be saved and processed to a cloud and system. This process also helps you save space in the long run. Since I’m working with public trading, I’d update and save my data every other day, but it would definitely depend on the company and what their finances are. I would increase firewalls and physical security. Physical security can always play a factor in making sure that availability is limited. The amount of hacking and information being confiscated is only increasing. The lack of Cybersecurity in America is negatively affecting financial institutions.

DNA digital data storage is the process of encoding and decoding binary data to and from synthesized strands of DNA. Individuals that are able to afford Digitizing data could customize  their own personal baby, or eliminate life threatening genetic diseases. Cybersecurity is an extremely important factor for any organization and government. Healthcare at this time has very valuable information on the network that can’t be promised to keep safe at all times. With healthcare having valuable information, it makes it a target for hackers. I feel as though Digitizing will cause a negative impact in this world we live in now. It’s very possible for a

“Bad guy” to get into a healthcare system and make their own DNA to empathize and sell to other criminals. DNA isn’t like a social security number that you can replace, which is a very rare predicament. DNA is something that you get once and can’t take back. When that information is affected and dealed off, you won’t get another identity. If Digitizing DNA population increases in the future, I believe that Identity theft will increase dramatically.

Digitizing DNA seems unreal but it’s happening now. DNA and inherent websites such as MyHeritage, 23andme, and AncestryDNA can easily be a weakness. MyHeritage was hacked for millions of usernames and passwords but there was no data of the information being used. That breach of information should be enough for individuals to decrease the amount of personal information they put online. In conclusion I believe that Digitization DNA will have a more negative effect than a positive effect with Gene Editing.
