IDS 493

Students completing their Cybersecurity studies at Old Dominion University are required to take IDS 493, the Electronic Portfolio Project. In this capstone course, students develop a comprehensive portfolio that brings together their academic work, professional experience, skill sets, and project deliverables. The course aims to help students demonstrate their academic abilities, critically analyze their learning, collaborate with peers, showcase their strongest work as evidence of their skills, and explore the career landscape.

Journal Portfolio

At Old Dominion University over the three active years, I’ve done plenty of research on my degree requirements, how to accomplish and become successful, and ways I can better myself after graduation. After several meetings with my advisor and implementing what I want for myself in the future, I’ve come up with game plans. Going into my senior year I have much I want and need to accomplish. As a Cybersecurity major minoring in Data Science and thinking of adding Risk Management Insurance, my short- and long-term goals will get me to the end of May 2026.

Cybersecurity and Data Science can unlock many interdisciplinary jobs in the industry. You can go into cybersecurity with law, airlines, LLCs, anything. When thinking of my career I wanted to go the safest way that would better my future to potentially build up a legacy. A way I’m looking to get into cybersecurity is joining the Space Force in the intelligence department. Well, the Space Force is mostly intelligence Engineering, Information Technology, logistics, and leadership. Going into the Space Force would help me start my life after college in a secure way and my kids if I decided to have a family. Also having a security clearance after the military will unlock many opportunities for the rest of my career. Old Dominion School of Cybersecurity is helping me implement my plan by educating me with fundamentals of cybersecurity, Linux, Networking, and Risk Management.

  • Cyber War and Cyber Law with learning how the human factor plays a huge part of everyday life in Tech.
  • Cyber Techniques and Operations & Cybersecurity Fundamentals that gives a real world feel of working in cybersecurity.
