Significant Projects

  • In 2019 and 2020, I was a full-time community college student starting right after graduating from high school.
  • In 2021 and 2022, I became a part-time community college student in order to have more time for part-time work, as well as a couple of certifications each year.
  • In Spring 2023, I completed my capstone course for my Associate of Applied Science degree. This was a Systems Development Project course, which mainly consisted of team-based project assignments. I was 1 of 5 members in my system development team, and we agreed that I should serve as the project owner/team lead.
    • This course functioned as a capstone course for all IT degree programs. Therefore, the projects were very challenging, and they drew from all IT curriculum. Heavy focus was placed on effective teamwork and communication.
    • For my team’s final project, we developed software and databases on a Raspberry Pi, which served as a traffic violation management system (TVMS). The goal of this was to design a project that would allow for us to test and secure a custom-designed Internet of Things (IoT) device as part of a team.
    • As our project served as an example of a rather advanced school project, it was not perfect, but we worked to maintain project artifacts to articulate work, scheduling, challenges, and successes. This included the utilization of a web-based project board, a requirements traceability matrix (RTM) document, as well as project reports.
    • Our TVMS could be used to electronically issue citations, track various data types associated with each violation entry, and print a ticket from a thermal printer. All of these functions could be remotely performed from a handheld device.
    • Due to the advanced nature of this course, it required each student to have successfully completed an Introduction to Networks course, an Introduction to Problem Solving and Programming course, as well as a Linux System Administration course. Additionally, it helped to have completed database fundamentals as well, even though it had already been 3 years ago at the time for me.
