Spanish Outside of Class

In the near future, I will be traveling overseas with ODU volleyball team to Portugal and Spain. I am so excited to be immersed in the language and culture! I think it will help bridge the small gaps I have in conversational grammar and comprehension.

Whenever I travel to Florida for the AAU Junior Nationals for volleyball, I often will referee Puerto Rican teams. When facilitating these games, I use Spanish occasionally to help the team, as most of the 12 year old athletes may not know English very well.

In high school, I tutored for Spanish National Honor Society. While I have not come into such an official role at ODU, I still occasionally tutor friends, depending on when they need help.

I practice my Spanish with my foreign friends that I have met in college. Two of my friends from Spain and my teammate from Argentina enjoy carrying conversations with me in Spanish and giving me pointers along the way.

I listen to a lot of Spanish music.
