Interview a Health Professional

I did my interview on Dr. Ada Allen. She is a Family Nurse Practioner. She currently works at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington D.C. For her education, she received her RN and then her BSN. She also completed her master’s and received a certificate in Family Nurse Practioner. What inspired her to get into the field is that she loves to take care of people and being a caregiver is her instinct. For her to become where she is now she had to obtain a BSN and work as an RN then complete a master’s and receive experience in the field. Her day-to-day roles and responsibilities are to check up on patients, give them their medications, and do charts and stats for the patients. She would describe her environment as sustainable and climate-friendly because it is important to dispose of and properly know what materials and where the materials go after usage. Her favorite/ most rewarding thing about her job is the interaction and caring aspect she receives with her patients. Dr. Allen would say the most challenging part of her job would be since she is working in a psych hospital sometimes the patients may refuse their medications and it will be harder for her to work with them. Some advice she would give is to make sure this is the field you would want to be in 100%. Something I took away from this interview is that when dealing with the healthcare field you can not be in it for the money. It is a rewarding career but you will not be able to get through your day-to-day jobs if this isn’t something you are passionate about.
