After assignment four I found myself paying more attention to television ads and clothing ads throughout the week. As women, I find that we are typically seen as or looked at as a sex symbol. Even a jewelry ad that was displayed had a woman completely naked with just the jewelry on her body. Women should be more than this and we should as a whole want more for ourselves. We pride ourselves on how far we’ve come, however our actions are only showing that we can take our clothes off and it can be seen as “art”.  Eventually there has to be a turning point when we have to want more for ourselves than just showing off our bodies.

After last week’s assignment, I explored more on the Old Dominion website page for study abroad opportunities. I was a little discouraged that the deadlines were closed the previous week. However, I did reach out to a family I nanny for in the summer. They are from Melbourne, Australia and after expressing my interest to travel they immediately let me know I could stay with them at any time to shadow them at their jobs in the city or if I just wanted to take a holiday and visit I could do that as well. Following this I then reached out to my Clinique representative to let her know I was interested in relocating for a new position in the company. Life is too short not o travel and explore surrounding whether they be in the states or across the world.

The first course assignment was essential in seeing where you stand when it comes to cultural acceptance. I would’ve never known I needed to be more aware of how I addressed others as well as paying attention to those around myself on a daily basis. My goal is to pursue an human resources position and this will require close attention to detail and being in tune with those around me. Also, another goal or outcome I hope to build upon is being able to talk about gender and race comfortably and to understand it more.
