Sport Professional Contact

For my pen pal, I have chosen a sports reporter/journalist Michael Sauls. Michael is a recent graduate in 2022 from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Journalism and a concentration in Sports Media. Most recently he has reported on Norfolk State, Hampton University, and High School sports for the Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press here in Norfolk, Virginia.

I have chosen Michael Sauls for my contact because I have previously seen his reports specifically for my old high school Great Bridge High School. I saw this post from my graduation year 2022 where our soccer team had won states and were advancing far into the season and our team was trending on different reporting sights. Another reason I chose to reach out to Michael is because I thought it would be interesting to speak to someone who has just broken into full-time positions in the sports industry. I believe it will be interesting to see the process he is going through since he has been in the heavily grinding part of his career. In January of 2023, he was an intern with the Virginian-Pilot and by April of the same year, he had achieved a full-time position with the Virginian-Pilot. Now he is currently back off to South Carolina his hometown to cover the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team mainly and cover some other sports as well. Which this is also very interesting to hear about since the women’s basketball team is a thriving organization that has and is going to continue winning many championships so it should be amazing to cover and hear all about.

After being assigned to find a pen pal I was looking up different sports professionals and found Michael again which reminded me of the reports I had seen before from him. I decided to reach out to Michael Sauls via email to which he replied in a kind and fast manner agreeing to be a person of contact for me for this assignment during this semester.
