The Quest- Social Media Project

As mentioned in previous posts, my penpal Is Michael Sauls who is a South Carolina women’s basketball reporter. The women’s Gamecocks basketball team is one of the most exiciting and best teams in current women’s college basketball. They have several star players and frequntley have won March Madness titles. With women’s sports being on the rise now is the time to benefit and promote the team more. Using social media and following recent and popular trends will allow the team to grow as a whole and bring them more attention then ever.

The idea I have worked on and pitched with Michael is using social media posts to draw in more viewers and get people more interested in women’s basketball. I believe getting the students more involved is a big part. Some trending videos right now are when people go around on campus interviewing students. My proposal is making videos of this kind where students will be interviewed and ask if they can name players on the women’s basketball team and if they can name them they either win free tickets or some sort of merchandise. Getting the players involved too. Getting the players out asking and recording the questions and talking to the students makes them feel more involved in the community, which makes them feel more real and not just athletes you see on television. Throughout preseason and during season posts of this nature will keep being addded to the Gamecock’s social media pages. Bringing in more attention and producing more content to keep people coming back. The goal is to make the fans feel more connected and apart of the team so that they will keep coming back and buying more tickets.

This idea came from seeing past videos from different teams or organizations really benefitting off of making videos to current trends. It seems to make high profile athletes feel more real which can deepen a connection between player and fan. It shows that these individuals are seeing and doing the same things as you and your friends making them feel more relatable. After seeing those videos go viral I looked at USC and saw that they do not have a ton of content like this.

I believe through this plan that the women’s basketball team will be able to boost their online presence, and gain more student followers. All of this will allow for the community around the team to grow and boost attendance numbers at games as well.
