Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Instructions
Exploring Culture
I’ve used my PC as a to keep in touch with my friends and play games with people over the world. I’ve used my alto saxophone to lean music and engage in competitions.
In a flash culture that we watched it showed the capital of Argentina. I noticed in that video the people in the capital were having fun and were playing music in the background. That showed me that music offered a similar cultural influence of music and relaxation.
Engaging in Communities
In the English speaking world were withdrawn from our immediate community. I’ve never felt the need to to go out of my way to introduce myself or talk to a complete stranger. Outside of school I don’t engage in my community. In the English speaking world this I feel is how most people feel. One of the earliest Flash cultures we did in span101 showed this is not how it is for the Spanish speaking world.
Interpersonal Communication
This semester gave me the chance to trey writing a small paper in Spanish. I cant say my papers were very good but I enjoyed the experience of writing in a different language.
One of the best ways of learning we did was the discussion boards. I personally enjoyed discussion boards where we would draw and the proceed to guess what each other drew. We answered in Spanish. I feel this was a unique way of learning vocab and interacting with each other.
Presentational Speaking
Due to Covid-19 restricting class our presentations took place online in recorded zoom calls. My first Zoom call was horrible. However, it showed me I needed and wanted to learn more.
The first presentation i completed was an interview in which I played the reporter for the school newspaper. It did not go well. I couldn’t remember what I was trying to say. So for the second interview we did it was between us and the professor. She asked us about our family. I did better, i was able to remember what I wanted to say, but I had to think and was slower than i wanted to be. For the third interview we did I was to talk about my hometown. This time I sprinted through my memorized lines and in half the time we were required to do. I believe the second interview was my best and the grade reflects that.
Presentational Writing
I wrote two papers this semester. One was on my family and the other was on the the ODU campus.
I enjoyed writing the first paper more then the second. However I feel the second was a better paper overall. The second paper was more fleshed out and amore complete paper. It was more difficult due to not being on campus. My vocab definitely grew over the time it took to

Most of the listening activities we did were in our homework. They would be relatively simple.
They, while simple, were difficult. I would struggle to differentiate what were words when listening. I did eventually get the hang of it. I don’t think I’m good at listening though. In the videos I would prefer to use subtitles in the Spanish videos we listened to. Also our zoom call lessons would be in Spanish with the slide show in English.
Interpretive Reading
The only readings we did were from the VHL textbook. Maany of these were for culture.
Aventuras, reader.vhlcentral.com.
These reading were normally dialogue. They were pretty difficult at first. They got easier as time went on with the addition of vocab.
