Non -Academic Writing

Early-Life-Essay

Looking back to the essay that I wrote for a black history program when I was twelve, I can see my academic progress from my middle school years to current times. My infatuation with Garrett Morgan and his contributions to black history and black inventions, was properly presented but it was missing something. Now that I am in college, I can see where I could improve my writings. The structure and layout could have been better, the flow and transitions between topic could have been more polished. It was very repetitive and multiple points were restated. I still hadn’t grasped proofreading. I was too lazy to take time to reread what I typed and revise it so it could properly present its purpose. I could have used more rhetorical strategies to deepen my argument and could have added more information. It was very vague and left the audience wanting more. I need to use stronger topic sentences and connecting evidence to validate my information, but despite its defects I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made from then and now. I have a proper understanding of the writing process but also proper revision being able to point out the flaws in my work to make it polished and smooth.
