Part 1: Based on the reading alone by IBM millennials ages 20-36 seem to have less concern for password safety than those 55 years and up. Many millennials prefer convenience over security based on the survey given. It seems the US is not as comfortable using biometrics and they believe it has to do with the lack of knowledge. Compared to Europe the US respondents stated they did not want to use biometrics now or in the near future while Europe participants stated they are more confident using the technology. The United States participants did recognize the number of breaches that have occurred compared to others, but were under the impression they could be prevented and therefore no need for an increase in Technology. My impression is while I do know human error is a big cause of some attacks, added security works out for the better and if the survey results are indeed accurate for the US residents I do believe the lack of education on the topic could be the cause.

Part 2: Fido is an organization that encourages authentication over password use. Their goal is to get rid of the world’s reliance on passwords. Many companies have come together to make this a reality such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. This works by registering a device with a FIDO service similar to how a CAC works on government computers but using public key cryptography. The public keys are then on the device helping others be more in charge of their own security. The public key will be unique to each application and can be called upon from a device instead of a server. By using this approach attacks on the corporation’s computer should not affect the consumer due to the fact the data is not stored. This also allows them to identify an identity prior to a scam and can confirm if the person is indeed real and verify credentials.
