Clarifying information:  Definition:  Computer hacking is broadly defined as intentionally accessing a computer without authorization or exceeding authorized access. Various state and federal laws govern computer hacking. The federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act provides details as follows:  definitions.uslegal.com/c/computer-hacking/

From my understanding, I believe there are two ways to look at the way the “principle of determination” relates to hacking:

One view can be that an event led to the person being forced to hack into the system. Due to the definition of being unauthorized, this can be seen as an accident or intentional. A person’s behavior can be viewed as unpredictable, but that is not always the case. One could claim they accidentally stumbled into the wrong system or were forced to. People are not always aware of a hacker’s motive so this can not be completely disproven.

Another view can be that computers have become increasingly popular so therefore people were bound to exploit and take advantage of this. The phrase that comes to mind is “What did you think would happen?” referring to the fact that when companies switched to online banking why would you think people would not take advantage?

I think that human behavior is seen as predictable and we do not always know the reason behind one’s actions. Psychologists typically do have a better understanding of the human mind, but we never have a definite answer on one’s motive and can only assume or go based on what was told. While I do believe in the scientific theory I do not believe it can always be applied to someone’s motives.
